As well as having an amazing time catching up with an old friend and her family in both Auckland and Wanaka, we also had a couple of other interesting experiences.

We stayed in this “castle” (an Airbnb place) in Auckland:

And (as I am married to a nerd) we took a scenic flight in an eight-seater plane to see Lord of the Rings locations on the South Island: 

We saw a lot in the two weeks we were able to spend in New Zealand and I’m satisfied that we managed to hit the highlights. There’s plenty to go back for, of course. But this was really the trip of a lifetime.
